Senegalese defender Moussa Ndiaye cleared after red card overturned
Schalke 04 defender Moussa Ndiaye has been cleared to play this weekend after the German Football Association overturned his red card, following a review in which the referee admitted to a case of mistaken identity.
The Senegalese centre-back had been sent off during Schalke’s recent match against Elversberg, leaving his availability in doubt ahead of the club’s upcoming Bundesliga 2 fixture against Münster.
However, the DFB’s disciplinary committee has now reversed the decision, making him eligible for selection in the 30th round of the championship.
The ruling came after a reassessment of the incident, which included a telephone hearing with the match official and a detailed review of television footage.
According to reports from Le Soleil Sports, the evidence presented during the process led to a clear conclusion that the initial decision had been made in error.
In an official statement, the German Football Association outlined the reasons behind the reversal, explaining that video replays showed the foul in question had in fact been committed by an Elversberg player.
The clarification directly contradicted the on-field decision that resulted in Ndiaye’s dismissal.
Referee Michael Bacher acknowledged the mistake during the review process, admitting that he had incorrectly identified the player responsible for the challenge.
The official also confirmed that Ndiaye, who wears the number 16 shirt for Schalke, had not engaged in any unsporting behaviour during the incident.
The decision brings relief to Schalke 04, who will now be able to call upon the defender for their next league match.
It also highlights the role of post-match reviews in ensuring accuracy in disciplinary matters, particularly in situations where key decisions can have a significant impact on team selection.
For Ndiaye, the outcome restores both his availability and his record, allowing him to continue the campaign without the burden of a suspension.
Schalke will now turn their attention to their upcoming fixture, with the defender once again in contention to feature.
