Real Madrid beat Barcelona 2-1 at Camp Nou in the 265th Clasico, but Jose Mourinho had a personal reason for dedicating the victory to the home supporters.
Speaking to the Real Madrid official channel after the match, the Portuguese manager said: “I dedicate this win to the Barcelona fans who kept me awake at the hotel today.”
Mourinho explained that Barcelona followers had gathered outside the hotel where Real Madrid’s squad were staying during their visit to the city. He said the supporters had “not stopped singing all day”.
The 63-year-old, without changing his expression, added: “I could not have my siesta, but I beat their team – a big hug to them.”
The result was secured by two goals from Kylian Mbappe, who opened the scoring in the 41st minute before striking again in the 87th minute to settle the contest.
Barcelona equalised through Brazilian forward Raphinha in the 61st minute, but Mbappe’s late finish gave Real Madrid victory after the hosts had briefly drawn level.
Eduardo Camavinga also played a decisive part in the winning goal despite coming on as a substitute in the 80th minute, replacing Bernardo Silva.
The French midfielder drove through the centre of the Barcelona defence and went past Pau Cubarsi before setting up Mbappe to complete the move.
Barcelona’s defeat ended their run of nine successive victories in the opening nine rounds of La Liga. It also allowed Real Madrid to reduce the gap between the two sides.
The loss meant Barcelona remained top of the table but were now only three points ahead of Real Madrid. Without the victory, the difference between the teams would have increased to nine points.
The accompanying La Liga listings included Barcelona on 31 October 2026, while Deportivo Alaves and Racing Santander were listed in the competition for 01 November 2026, alongside Real Madrid.
