Mourinho draws firm line over Vinicius Jr as Arsenal explore ambitious move

Jose Mourinho has told Real Madrid that Vinicius Junior must not be sold to Arsenal, despite the Premier League champions’ concrete interest in the Brazil forward and uncertainty over his contract situation.

Vinicius, whose current deal at the Bernabeu expires next summer, has been linked with a high-profile switch to the Emirates Stadium after Real Madrid’s attempts to secure an extension stalled.

According to The Telegraph, new head coach Mourinho has made it clear to the club’s hierarchy that he is against any departure for the 24-year-old and wants to retain all of his established stars.

The Athletic reports that Arsenal’s interest in signing Vinicius is “genuine”, but club sources indicate that Mourinho has stressed to the Real Madrid board that his core players should be kept “away from any discussion” about possible sales.

Vinicius central to Mourinho’s plans

Mourinho is understood to view Vinicius, Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham as non-negotiable pillars of his team for the coming season and is pressing for the trio to remain untouched in the transfer market.

The Portuguese coach’s stance has emerged at a time when Arsenal are testing the waters over what would be one of the most eye-catching moves of the summer window.

While the London club’s pursuit of Vinicius is still at an early stage, the fact they are seriously considering a move for a player of his profile is seen as a marker of how far Arsenal have progressed in recent years.
