Mosimane holds talks with Lesotho as Bafana Bafana interest continues
Pitso Mosimane has held discussions with the Lesotho national team while speculation continues to surround his possible appointment as the next coach of South Africa.
Mosimane remains one of the leading candidates to replace Belgian coach Hugo Broos, who has departed his role in charge of Bafana Bafana. The South African coach and his representatives are understood to have already opened talks with the South African Football Association (SAFA) about a potential return to the national team.
A decision on the appointment is expected to be confirmed before the September international break, although the process remains ongoing.
During the wait, Mosimane has been offering his experience to the coaching staff of the Lesotho national team. The Lesotho Football Association (LeFA) said it recently met the former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly coach to exchange ideas on a range of football-related issues.
“The LeFA delegation received a warm reception from Mr. Mosimane, as well as representatives from MT Sports Marketing and Management, who represent the former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly coach,” read a statement by LeFA.
The meeting included discussions about continental football, technical development and possible cooperation between LeFA and the Pitso Mosimane Youth Football.
LeFA said the talks were part of a broader effort to learn from established figures in the game and establish partnerships that could help advance football in Lesotho.
“The engagement forms part of LeFA’s ongoing efforts to benchmark, learn, and build strategic partnerships that will contribute to the growth and development of football in Lesotho at both national team and youth level.”
Mosimane’s involvement with Lesotho comes as his name continues to be linked with the vacant Bafana Bafana position. He is regarded as a frontrunner for the job after the departure of Broos, with SAFA expected to make a decision before the next international window in September.
The coach has previously managed both Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly, and his representatives are understood to have engaged directly with SAFA over the possible appointment.
For now, Mosimane’s focus has included supporting discussions around the development of football in Lesotho, including work connected to national-team and youth structures. The meeting with LeFA also covered potential areas of collaboration with the Pitso Mosimane Youth Football.
The South African national team coaching situation remains unresolved while the talks and decision-making process continue.
