U17 AFCON starts today in Morocco

Defending champions Morocco U17 will begin their 2026 U17 Africa Cup of Nations campaign today with an opening Group Stage clash against Tunisia U17 at the Prince Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat.

The encounter will conclude the tournament’s opening round of fixtures, with kickoff scheduled for 8:00 p.m. local time.

Football fans in Morocco can follow the match live on Arryadia TV via the SNRT TNT channel. International viewers will also be able to watch the game on beIN Sports 5 and Canal+ Sport, while streaming options will be available on FIFA+ and TOD. CAF TV is also expected to provide a live stream of the match on YouTube.

Morocco head into the tournament as reigning champions after lifting their maiden U17 AFCON title in April 2025. The Atlas Cubs defeated Mali on penalties in the final to secure a historic triumph on home soil.

Head coach Tiago Lima Pereira will be hoping for another strong start against a Tunisian side they already overcame earlier this year during the UNAF tournament in Benghazi, Libya. Morocco won that meeting 2-0.

Speaking ahead of the game, Pereira stressed the importance of opening the competition positively.

“We want to start the competition with determination and win this first match,” the coach said in comments relayed by the FRMF.

He added that the team is approaching the tournament “with the greatest seriousness,” while insisting that his players always compete with victory in mind.

The squad also received a morale boost before the start of the tournament after FRMF president Fouzi Lekjaa visited the players at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Maâmora to show support ahead of the competition.

Following today’s encounter against Tunisia, Morocco will continue their campaign against Ethiopia on Saturday before facing Egypt next Tuesday. Both fixtures are scheduled to kick off at 8:00 p.m.

The tournament carries major significance, with all eight quarterfinalists earning automatic qualification for the 2026 FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar.

Morocco’s squad includes several highly rated young prospects, among them Chelsea youngster Ibrahim Rabbaj, who is expected to be one of the players to watch during the competition.
