Ernest Nuamah ends 18-Month goal drought for Lyon

Ernest Nuamah produced a standout performance as Olympique Lyonnais beat AJ Auxerre 3-1 on Friday, registering a goal and an assist to end an 18-month Ligue 1 scoring drought.

The Ghanaian winger, who had not found the net in the French top flight since before a serious knee injury in April 2025, was involved in all three of Lyon’s goals in a display that marked his full return to form.

Operating on the right flank, Nuamah looked sharp and confident, contributing a stunning strike and delivering a corner that led to another Lyon goal. Speaking after the match, he described the encounter as a personal breakthrough following a difficult rehabilitation period.

“I am happy to have finally been able to score my first goal, it has been a long journey. It was not easy, but now I am back,” Nuamah said. “The most important thing was to prepare myself; I could not do that when I was injured. Now I am here, back and I want to help the team with my qualities.”

The 22-year-old praised Lyon’s squad depth and team spirit, highlighting how new signings have adapted quickly. He also acknowledged the tactical role assigned by the coaching staff, noting that playing closer to goal increased his chances of scoring.

“I am just back to give everything,” Nuamah added. “One goal, one assist, that is the top, a good match.”
