Sunderland are on the verge of completing a major transfer, with Club Brugge winger Chemsdine Talbi set to join the Premier League side in a deal reportedly worth around €23 million (£19.5 million), including performance-related add-ons.
The Moroccan international was notably absent from Brugge’s squad for their pre-season clash against Rangers, signaling that negotiations are at an advanced stage.
Talbi enjoyed an impressive campaign last season, featuring in 43 matches across all competitions and shining in the UEFA Champions League.
The 21-year-old netted six goals and has been widely tipped as one of the brightest young talents in Belgian football.
The move will see Talbi pen a five-year deal with the Black Cats, making him one of the club’s most expensive acquisitions in recent history.
He would become Sunderland’s fourth signing of the summer window, joining French midfielder Enzo Le Fée, Habib Diarra, and Noah Sadiki.
With a return to top-flight football on the horizon, head coach Régis Le Bris and sporting director Kristjaan Speakman continue to build a youthful and energetic squad geared for Premier League survival and long-term success.
