Moroccan international and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) right-back Achraf Hakimi has been shortlisted for the Ligue 1 Best Player of the Season award following a standout 2024/25 campaign.
Hakimi has delivered an exceptional season, featuring in 44 matches across all competitions. He has scored six goals and registered 14 assists, playing a pivotal role in PSG’s domestic and European success.
His performances have been crucial in helping the Parisian club clinch the Ligue 1 title, secure a place in the French Cup final, and reach the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, where they recently defeated Arsenal in the first leg.
The 25-year-old is in contention for the award alongside PSG teammates Désiré Doué, Ousmane Dembélé, and Vitinha, as well as Olympique Lyon’s Rayan Cherki.
Should he win, Hakimi would become the first Moroccan player to claim the honour, a milestone achievement. The award had previously been dominated by Kylian Mbappé, who won it four consecutive times before his recent move to Real Madrid.
Another Moroccan, Younès Belhanda, came close to the accolade in the 2011–12 season, finishing as runner-up.
Hakimi’s nomination adds to a growing list of achievements in his career. In 2022, he was named Arab Sportsman of the Year at the Joy Awards in Riyadh. Two years later, he received the Golden Lion award, recognising him as Africa’s top footballer.
He has also been featured in the FIFA FIFPRO World 11 (2022) and has regularly appeared in Team of the Year selections by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS).
Hakimi will look to maintain his strong form as PSG travel to face Strasbourg on Saturday before returning to host Arsenal in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final next Wednesday.
