Morocco break into FIFA’s world top five after Brazil draw

Morocco have risen to fifth in the FIFA world rankings after Brazil were held to a 1-1 draw by Australia on Friday.

The result allowed the Atlas Lions to move above Brazil and Portugal in the global standings, marking another significant milestone for Moroccan football.

Their new position also matches the best ranking ever achieved by an African national team. Morocco now share fifth place with Nigeria, who reached the same position in 1994.

The rise continues a period of sustained progress for Morocco, who have established themselves among the leading sides in international football. The team is managed by Mohamed Ouahbi.

Morocco will soon begin their campaign in the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, with their opening match against Gabon.

The new FIFA ranking comes after a series of strong performances that have strengthened Morocco’s standing at the highest level of the international game.
