Olympique de Marseille have confirmed that Moroccan defender Nayef Aguerd has been authorised to travel to Morocco as he continues his recovery from a long-term injury setback.

In an official statement released on Thursday, the French club explained that the decision was taken to allow the centre back to work closely with specialists from the Moroccan national team during the next stage of his rehabilitation programme.

Marseille stated that Aguerd will continue his medical treatment and recovery process in collaboration with the medical staff of the Moroccan national team as he works toward a full return to fitness.

The defender has endured a difficult period with injuries since late 2025 after suffering from persistent groin pain linked to pubalgia. Despite attempting to manage the issue for several weeks, Aguerd eventually underwent surgery on March 12, 2026, to treat what was described as a sports hernia alongside complications involving the pubic bone.

However, his recovery suffered another setback in mid-April when Marseille’s medical staff detected a pubic bone fracture as well as minor bone inflammation during follow-up examinations.

Reports indicate that Aguerd had been struggling with the problem for several months before surgery became unavoidable, having initially tried conservative treatment methods in an effort to avoid an operation.

Marseille also reaffirmed their support for the Moroccan international, stressing that the club remains in close coordination with all medical teams involved in the player’s recovery while wishing him a speedy return to action.
