Montpellier tie down teenage forward Lacine Megnan-Pave until 2029

Montpellier have secured the future of one of their most highly rated young players after Lacine Megnan-Pave signed a contract extension running until June 2029.

The 16-year-old French-Ivorian forward was attracting interest from Paris Saint-Germain during the summer transfer window, but has chosen to continue his development with Montpellier.

The Ligue 2 club announced the new agreement on its social media channels, underlining its determination to retain and develop its emerging talent. Megnan-Pave’s long-term deal also strengthens Montpellier’s position should further interest emerge in the future.

Paris Saint-Germain had made a serious approach for the teenager during the last summer window, with an offer estimated at 15 million euros. Montpellier resisted the proposal and opted to keep one of the most promising players in its academy and first-team set-up.

Megnan-Pave has already begun to make an impression at senior level this season. He has played seven Ligue 2 matches, starting five of them, and has scored two goals.

Those appearances have come despite his age and limited experience of professional football. His involvement reflects the confidence placed in him by Montpellier’s coaching staff, while his goalscoring record suggests he is beginning to adapt to the demands of the higher level.

The contract extension gives the club greater control over his progression and more time to support his development. It also protects Montpellier’s interests after the young forward’s performances drew attention from Paris Saint-Germain.

Megnan-Pave will now continue his apprenticeship in Montpellier colours, with the club hoping he can fulfil the potential that has already made him a subject of interest beyond the Herault region.

For the player, the next stage will be to build on his promising start and establish himself more firmly in the professional game. At 16, he has already attracted significant attention, but Montpellier will want to see that promise develop into consistent performances on the pitch.

Montpellier are due to face Red Star in their Ligue 2 fixture for the 10th matchday of the French championship.
