Monsef Bekrar targets trophies after completing Al Ahly move from Dinamo Zagreb

Monsef Bekrar says his main ambition at Al Ahly is to help the club regularly compete for trophies after completing his move from Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb.

The Algeria striker has joined Al Ahly on a three-year contract and described the Egyptian club as the place where he wants to build a successful future.

“I am happy to join Al Ahly, the club with the most titles, the Club of the Century in Africa and a team that is always present at the Club World Cup,” Bekrar told the club’s official website.

Bekrar said he had no hesitation about accepting the opportunity to wear Al Ahly’s shirt and expressed confidence in the club’s leadership and supporters.

“I did not hesitate to wear Al Ahly’s shirt. I have great confidence in the club, its officials and its great fans, and together we will achieve many titles,” he added.

The 25-year-old concluded by explaining what the club represents to him and setting out his personal target after arriving in Cairo.

“Al Ahly means history. It is the past, the present and the future, and my goal is for us to always be on the podium,” he said.

Reports in Croatia said the transfer was agreed for an initial fee of three million euros, with the total potentially rising to four million euros if performance-related incentives are met.

Dinamo Zagreb will also receive 10% of any future resale fee, according to those reports.

Bekrar becomes Al Ahly’s fourth signing of the summer. He follows Ali Mahmoud and Aqtay Abdullah, who arrived from ENPPI, and Moroccan forward Sofiane Benjedida, who joined from Maghreb Fes.

The Algerian forward arrives after a productive campaign in which he made 42 appearances, scoring 18 goals and providing seven assists.

His move from Dinamo Zagreb gives him the opportunity to continue his career at one of Africa’s most decorated clubs. Bekrar’s comments underline the expectations that come with joining Al Ahly, where success is measured by the number of trophies won and regular appearances at the highest level.

He also pointed specifically to the club’s record and its status as Africa’s Club of the Century, while highlighting its continued presence in the Club World Cup.

For Al Ahly, Bekrar’s arrival adds another attacking option to a squad that has already been strengthened by four summer signings. The club will hope his goals and assists from last season can be carried into his new surroundings as he begins a three-year spell in Egypt.

The player’s stated objective is clear: to help Al Ahly remain among the teams competing for honours throughout the season.
