Mokwena’s Pyramids FC make it two wins from two

Rulani Mokwena’s Pyramids FC have made a perfect start to the season after beating newly promoted Abu Qir Fertilizers SC to claim a second consecutive victory.

The 2025 CAF Champions League winners followed up their opening-day success against Ghazl El Mahalla with another convincing performance, securing a comfortable win without conceding. Their latest result leaves them top of the table with six points from two matches.

Pyramids began the campaign with a 3-0 victory over Ghazl El Mahalla, setting an early marker in the league. Mokwena’s team then carried that momentum into their meeting with Abu Qir Fertilizers SC, controlling the contest and taking another step forward in the opening stages of the season.

The breakthrough arrived shortly before half-time. Youssef Obama, who has started the campaign in impressive form, found the net to give Pyramids a 1-0 lead at the interval.

That goal ensured Mokwena’s side went into the break in front, and they extended their advantage soon after the restart. Just three minutes into the second half, youngster Odeh Fakhoury scored to put Pyramids 2-0 ahead.

Fakhoury, 20, has now scored in consecutive matches for Pyramids. His strong start comes after he enjoyed a successful FIFA World Cup with Jordan, and he has continued that form with important goals for his club.

The result keeps Pyramids at the summit, where they are the only side with six points after two games. They have also yet to concede a goal, while their five goals make them the highest scorers in the league so far.

Mokwena’s team have therefore combined defensive solidity with an effective attack in their opening fixtures. Their five goals have come across victories against Ghazl El Mahalla and Abu Qir Fertilizers SC, while the clean sheets in both matches underline the strength of their start.

Pyramids will now face their first away match of the campaign when they travel to meet Al-Masry. The fixture is scheduled for 31 August, four days after their victory over Abu Qir Fertilizers SC.

The meeting with Al-Masry will provide Pyramids with their next opportunity to preserve their 100% record and remain top of the table. After two wins, five goals scored and none conceded, Mokwena’s side go into the encounter with their early-season momentum intact.
