Mohamed Salah signs two-year deal to join Trabzonspor

Mohamed Salah has signed a two-year contract with Turkish club Trabzonspor, completing his move after arriving in Turkey and undergoing a medical.

Trabzonspor confirmed the agreement with the Egypt international in an official statement on Thursday. Salah will reportedly earn 17m euros per season, with additional clauses and bonuses included in the deal.

The forward signed the contract on Thursday morning. He had completed his medical examination on Wednesday after arriving in Turkey.

Salah wore a Trabzonspor shirt for the first time on the plane after landing at Istanbul Airport. He also addressed the club’s supporters in a message, saying: “Trabzon, are you ready? I can hear you, and I will see you for the first time.”

The scale of the welcome he received was highlighted by Salah in comments to reporters after reaching Trabzon.

“There are 25,000 people here. I do not remember seeing anything like this before at an airport,” he said.

“Seeing this love and attention makes me incredibly happy. I even find it difficult to express it in words.”

Salah said he was looking forward to beginning work with his new team and set out his ambitions for the season.

“I am very happy and I am looking forward to training with the team. I always aim to win something wherever I go, and I hope we can achieve good results in the league and in Europe,” he added.

His first competitive fixtures with Trabzonspor are expected to come in August, with the club beginning its Turkish league campaign away to Kasımpasa on 15 August.

Trabzonspor will then host either Hungarian side Ferencvarosi or Polish club Gornik Zabrze in the Europa League on 20 August. The match will form part of the club’s European qualification schedule.

Three days later, Trabzonspor will welcome Basaksehir in the second round of the Turkish league season. The return leg against either Ferencvarosi or Gornik Zabrze is scheduled for 27 August as part of the Europa League play-off stage.

Trabzonspor’s third league fixture is due to take place away against Amed Spor on 30 August. That will be followed by a home match against Genclerbirligi on 6 September and an away game at Konyaspor on 13 September.

If the club qualifies, its first match in the Europa League group stage is scheduled for 17 September.

Salah’s arrival marks the beginning of a new chapter in Turkey after the club reached an agreement with the Egyptian star for a contract running through the next two years. The financial terms include his annual salary of 17m euros, alongside other provisions and performance-related bonuses.
