Mohamed Salah scores but Trabzonspor suffer late defeat by Amedspor

Trabzonspor’s difficult start continued as they were beaten 2-1 by Amedspor in the third round of the Turkish league, despite Mohamed Salah playing the full match and scoring his side’s only goal.

The Egyptian great gave Trabzonspor an early lead in the 11th minute, finishing after finding himself through on goal. However, Amedspor responded before half-time and completed their comeback with a decisive late winner in the closing stages.

Trabzonspor’s defeat adds to a difficult period for the club, who were recently beaten 4-0 by Hungarian side Ferencvarosi in the play-off round for the UEFA Europa League. That result led Trabzonspor manager Fatih Tekke to announce his resignation, although he later reversed the decision after an intervention by the club’s management.

Salah opened the scoring against Amedspor with a composed finish after breaking clear of the defence. His goal appeared to have put Trabzonspor in control, but Amedspor continued to press for a response as the first half drew to a close.

Their equaliser arrived in the fifth minute of added time. Yira Collins Soro converted from the rebound after Trabzonspor’s goalkeeper had saved a penalty. The ball fell back to Soro, who made no mistake with the second opportunity to bring Amedspor level before the interval.

The visitors then secured all three points with a goal in the 90th minute. Gift Orban found the net with a shot into an unguarded goal, completing Amedspor’s turnaround and leaving Trabzonspor without a victory from the match.

The result leaves Trabzonspor on four points in 11th place in the Turkish league table. Amedspor, meanwhile, moved up to six points and occupy fifth position.

For Trabzonspor, the loss represents another setback following the heavy European defeat and the uncertainty surrounding Tekke’s position. Their inability to hold on to an early advantage against Amedspor means they remain in the lower half of the standings after the third round.

Salah’s contribution was not enough to prevent another disappointing result. Having scored to put Trabzonspor ahead, he remained on the pitch for the entire game but saw his team concede twice, including the late goal that settled the contest in Amedspor’s favour.
