Mohamed Salah completes Trabzonspor switch as Turkish club agree lucrative contract terms

Mohamed Salah has officially completed his move to Trabzonspor, beginning a new chapter in his career after leaving Liverpool at the end of last season.

The Egypt international has signed a two-year contract with the Turkish club, according to Turkish newspaper AKSAM, which has also reported details of the agreement.

Salah is set to earn an annual salary of €17m during his time at Trabzonspor. The contract also contains a notable commercial clause, under which he will receive 20% of the revenue generated from products sold by the club carrying his name or image.

The transfer marks the seventh club of Salah’s senior career. Before joining Trabzonspor, he played for El Mokawloon, Basel, Chelsea, Fiorentina, Roma and Liverpool.

Salah’s departure from Liverpool came at the end of a nine-year spell at Anfield, during which he established himself as one of the club’s most influential players and collected a series of individual and team honours.

He now moves to Trabzonspor after negotiations with another Turkish club, Besiktas, failed earlier in the current summer transfer window. Talks between Salah and Besiktas broke down because the two sides could not reach an agreement over the financial terms of the proposed contract.

The agreement with Trabzonspor, as reported by AKSAM, gives Salah a two-year commitment and includes both the €17m yearly salary and the share of income from merchandise featuring his name or likeness.

The move brings to an end Salah’s time with Liverpool, where he spent nine seasons before deciding to continue his career in Turkey. His transfer to Trabzonspor also represents the latest stage of a journey that has taken him through clubs in Egypt, Switzerland, England and Italy.

Salah began his career with El Mokawloon before moving to Basel. He subsequently joined Chelsea and later spent time in Serie A with Fiorentina and Roma, before establishing himself at Liverpool.

Trabzonspor will therefore become the seventh club represented by the Egyptian forward in his career. The Turkish side’s reported agreement with Salah includes a substantial financial package, with the merchandise clause providing him with a direct share of sales linked to the use of his name or image.

The contract details were disclosed on Wednesday, the same day that Salah’s transfer to Trabzonspor was officially completed.
