Mohamed Ismail names Mayele as toughest striker in Egyptian topflight
Zamalek defender Mohamed Ismail has named DR Congo and Pyramids FC forward Fiston Mayele as the most difficult striker he has faced in the Egyptian Premier League, placing him above former Al Ahly attacker Wissam Abou Ali.
Speaking in a televised interview, Ismail highlighted Mayele’s physical presence and sharp instincts inside the box, noting his ability to punish defensive errors with minimal space.
While he acknowledged Abou Ali’s constant movement and work rate across the pitch, he insisted the Pyramids striker poses a greater threat in decisive attacking zones.
Ismail also opened up on his relationship with Zamalek’s sporting director John Edward, praising his commitment to the squad during difficult periods.
He revealed that Edward often went beyond his official duties to support players when financial delays affected the club.
According to the defender, the sporting director even stepped in personally at times to provide part of the players’ dues before administrative issues were resolved, a gesture he said helped maintain stability and unity within the Zamalek dressing room.
