Masuluke arrival gives Polokwane City goalkeeping boost, says Moloto

Polokwane City head coach Willy Moloto believes the signing of Oscarine Masuluke has strengthened competition and leadership within his goalkeeping department.

Masuluke, 33, had been without a club since leaving Stellenbosch at the end of last season. He made 18 league appearances during his four seasons with the club.

The former Baroka FC goalkeeper had spent several weeks training with Polokwane City after failing to agree terms with Motsepe Foundation Championship side Real Native.

He made his debut for Rise and Shine in their 1-1 league draw against Kaizer Chiefs, a result which moved the club back into the top eight with seven points.

Masuluke was selected ahead of Lindokuhle Mathebula, who was Polokwane City’s first-choice goalkeeper last season. Moloto said Masuluke’s experience and influence would benefit the team both on and off the pitch.

“He added good value,” said Moloto.

“He helped us a lot in terms of organising the defence and he’s a player that is a leader.

“So, it’s something that we are looking at and he’s also going to push Mathebula.

“So, we want to bring balance in order to have a good competition on our team.”

Moloto said the arrival of Masuluke would provide greater competition for the goalkeeper’s position while helping the squad maintain balance.

The draw with Kaizer Chiefs extended Polokwane City’s push to remain in the top-eight bracket, with the club now on seven points.
