Orlando Pirates face fourth Sekhukhune United test in Carling Knockout semi-final push

Orlando Pirates assistant coach Rayaan Jacobs says his side must overcome a demanding Sekhukhune United challenge to reach the semi-finals of the Carling Knockout Cup.

The teams will meet for the fourth time this season, with their previous three encounters taking place in different competitions. Orlando Pirates won each of those matches, including both legs of their MTN8 semi-final and a Betway Premiership fixture.

Jacobs expects Sekhukhune United to provide a more difficult examination this time, with both teams now familiar with each other’s strengths and weaknesses.

“Look, of course we’ve played them three times before. Twice in the MTN8 and we’ve overcome them in the league,” he told OP TV.

“I think it makes the task a little harder. They know us, we know them. It’s about who comes up with the right game plan on the day.”

The assistant coach highlighted the range of tactical options available to Sekhukhune United, as well as the pace in their attack and their ability to build play under pressure.

“We know what Sekhukhune are all about. They can play multiple systems, their quick players they can get behind you.

“They can play between the lines, they really good in the build-up, they defend well but we know we have all the tools to beat them.”

Although Orlando Pirates have already beaten their opponents three times this season, Jacobs said those results would not guarantee another victory. He believes the Buccaneers must produce another effective performance if they are to extend that record and move into the last four.

“We’ve managed to overcome them three times, and we’ll be looking to make it a fourth.

“Our objective is to retain this title and make sure we progress to the semi-finals.”
