Marumo Gallants hold talks with Dimitar Pantev over head coach role

Marumo Gallants are in negotiations with Bulgarian coach Dimitar Pantev as they consider appointing a successor to Phuti Mohafe.

Pantev has emerged as a leading candidate following Mohafe’s dismissal, although discussions have yet to produce an agreement. The club and coach are still working through several outstanding issues before a potential appointment can be completed.

A source told Soccer Laduma: “They are talking and negotiations are ongoing, but at this stage the parties have not been able to reach an agreement. There are some complications because of the nature of the negotiations; and that is what is making it difficult for them to find common ground. Nothing has been finalised yet.”

The negotiations remain active, but Gallants have not limited their search to Pantev. The club is also considering other coaches who have expressed an interest in the vacancy and is reviewing the CVs being submitted.

“In the meantime, the club is receiving a number of CVs from coaches who are interested in the position. So, while the discussions continue, Gallants are also looking at other options and assessing the coaches who have made themselves available,” the source added.

Tough start to the season

Gallants parted company with Mohafe with immediate effect on Wednesday, after a difficult opening to their 2026/27 Betway Premiership campaign.

The club have failed to win any of their first five league matches. They have taken two points from two draws and suffered three defeats during that run.

The poor start led to the decision to release Mohafe, while discussions with Pantev continue over whether he will take charge. Both parties are still attempting to resolve the differences that have prevented them from reaching an agreement.

No appointment has been finalised, and Gallants are continuing to assess their alternatives while the talks with Pantev remain ongoing.
