AC Milan could bring defender David Odogu back from his loan spell at Toulouse in January after the youngster struggled to secure regular playing time in France.

The 20-year-old German centre-back with Nigerian roots joined Toulouse last summer in a move intended to provide him with more opportunities to develop, but he is yet to make his Ligue 1 debut.

Odogu struggles for playing time in France

Odogu has missed three matches because of muscle problems and remained an unused substitute in the other six appearances for which he was available.

Despite Toulouse collecting 10 points from their opening nine league matches, the defender has failed to establish himself in the team’s rotation.

The situation could prompt AC Milan to consider ending his loan spell early in January before finding him another club where he can enjoy regular playing time. A move to another Italian side is among the possibilities mentioned.

Milan investment yet to deliver returns

AC Milan signed Odogu from Wolfsburg on the final day of the 2025 summer transfer window for approximately €6 million, plus bonuses.

Born in 2006, the defender was viewed as a promising prospect, having represented Germany at youth level.

However, he struggled to secure playing time during his first season with the Rossoneri, partly because of coach Massimiliano Allegri’s technical decisions.

The loan move to Toulouse was expected to offer him an opportunity to gain valuable experience, but his lack of involvement has raised questions about his immediate future.
