Cameroon midfielder Martin Hongla poised for permanent Aris switch
Martin Hongla is set to extend his stay in Greece as talks advance over a permanent transfer following his loan spell with Aris Thessaloniki.
The 28-year-old midfielder joined Aris on loan during the winter transfer window and has quickly established himself as a key figure in the squad.
Discussions are now well under way between all parties over a long-term agreement that would keep him at the club beyond his initial loan arrangement.
Since arriving in January, Hongla has made a strong impression on the Greek side’s coaching staff and supporters. He has featured in 13 matches, contributing two goals during his short spell so far.
The midfielder has also been a regular starter, beginning approximately 80% of Aris’s matches since his arrival.
Beyond his statistical output, Hongla’s performances have been defined by his energy, work rate in midfield, and his willingness to drive forward from deeper positions.
Those qualities have been central to his rapid integration into the team and have strengthened the club’s decision-making regarding his future.
His impact has been significant enough for Aris to move forward with activating their option to buy, a step taken after being convinced by his consistency and influence on matches.
The club’s hierarchy are understood to be satisfied with his contribution and are pushing to finalise a longer commitment.
Prior to his move to Greece, Hongla’s situation at Granada CF appeared uncertain. Although he was under contract with the Spanish side until 2027, he was no longer part of their long-term plans, opening the door for a change of environment during the winter window.
A transfer agreement was subsequently reached between Granada and Aris, allowing the midfielder to move on loan, with the current negotiations now focused on converting that arrangement into a permanent switch.
