Olympique de Marseille will try to build on their first win in six matches when they host Olympiakos at the Velodrome in the Europa League on Thursday, 15 October 2026.
Marseille are 32nd in the competition’s league table, while Olympiakos sit 13th. The French side had lost five successive matches in all competitions before the international break, including a 4-1 defeat by Besiktas in their opening Europa League fixture.
Bruno Genesio’s team returned to winning ways on Sunday with a 2-0 victory at Troyes. Amine Harit and Himad Abdelli scored at the Stade de l’Aube, giving Marseille a result they hope can revive their season and their hopes of reaching the knockout phase.
The fixture will be only the seventh meeting between the sides. Marseille hold the historical advantage, having won four of the previous encounters, compared with two victories for Olympiakos.
The Greek club arrive in considerably better form, having won their past three matches in all competitions. Imanol Aglaucil’s side began their Europa League campaign with a 2-1 victory over Jagiellonia before recording consecutive 1-0 wins against Levadiakos and Panathinaikos in the Super League Greece.
The victory over Panathinaikos was particularly notable as Olympiakos played the second half with 10 men following Manolis Saliakas’ dismissal. Panagiotis Retsos scored the winning goal, and Olympiakos travel to France with confidence.
Marseille’s Europa League form is D, while their overall record is D, D, D, D, D, V. Olympiakos have recorded V in the Europa League and N, V, D, V, V, V in all competitions.
Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, Derek Cornelius and Nouhoum Kamissoko are expected to miss the match through injury. Geoffrey Kondogbia and Tochukwu Nnadi should be available after coming on against Troyes.
Timothy Weah returns from suspension and could replace Kelyann Bezahaf at right-back. Harit and Igor Paixao are expected to start on the wings, with Angel Gomes continuing as the number 10.
Olympiakos will be without first-choice striker Ayoub El-Kaabi because of injury. Roman Yaremchuk could lead the attack ahead of Marius Mounadilmadji.
Saliakas is available for this match because his red card against Panathinaikos only carries a domestic suspension. Remo Freuler and Gustavo Puerta are expected to continue together in midfield.
Probable teams
Marseille: De Lange; Weah, Egan-Riley, Aguerd, Emerson; Kondogbia, Abdelli; Harit, Gomes, Paixao; Gouiri.
Olympiakos: Ortega; Saliakas, Retsos, Pirola, Tiknizyan; Freuler, Puerta; Silva, Chiquinho, Fortounis; Yaremchuk.
The three suggested betting tips are more than 2.5 goals at 1.60, Amine Gouiri to score or provide an assist at 2.05, and either team to score a penalty at 3.50.
Despite Marseille’s home advantage and their weekend victory, Olympiakos’ stronger recent form makes them the predicted winners.
