Marquinhos rescues Paris Saint-Germain with late header in thrilling Lille draw
Paris Saint-Germain scored twice in stoppage time to snatch a 2-2 draw against Lille in the second round of the French league, with Marquinhos heading the equaliser in the final seconds.
The result leaves Paris Saint-Germain with two points from their opening two matches after recording a second successive draw. Lille move to four points and remain top of the table after following their victory in the opening round with a draw.
Hakon Haraldsson and Dylan Bakwa put Lille in control, but Vitinha reduced the deficit in the first minute of added time before Marquinhos completed the comeback with a headed finish.
Olivier Giroud played a decisive role for Lille, providing the assists for both of his side’s goals.
Lille took the lead in the 21st minute when Haraldsson unleashed a powerful shot that flew into the Paris Saint-Germain net. The move began with a pass from Giroud, who created the opening for the Iceland international.
Paris Saint-Germain struggled to find a response before Lille doubled their advantage in the 84th minute. Giroud supplied another dangerous delivery, and Bakwa capitalised on the well-placed cross to finish and strengthen Lille’s position.
The visitors finally pulled a goal back in the first minute of added time. Vitinha struck a well-taken shot beyond the Lille goalkeeper after being played in by Mika Godts, giving Paris Saint-Germain hope of salvaging a point.
That hope became reality moments later. Vitinha delivered an accurate cross into the area, and Marquinhos met it with a header that found the Lille net to make the score 2-2.
The draw extended Paris Saint-Germain’s run of consecutive league draws to two matches. For Lille, it ended the winning momentum they had built from their opening-round success, although they remain at the top of the early standings with four points.
Paris Saint-Germain will now prepare for their third-round meeting with Monaco on Friday as they look for their first league win of the campaign.
Lille will return to action on Thursday, when they face Toulouse in the third round of the French league.
