Manchester United come from behind to beat Atletico de Madrid in friendly

Manchester United produced a second successive pre-season victory as Bryan Mbeumo scored twice to secure a 2-1 win over Atletico de Madrid in an entertaining friendly on Saturday.

Atletico took the lead after only five minutes when Arnau Ortiz converted a chance created by Koke, heading the ball beyond the Manchester United goalkeeper and into the net.

Manchester United were unable to respond before half-time, but they levelled eight minutes after the restart when Mbeumo converted from the penalty spot to make it 1-1.

The former Atletico pressure continued as Manchester United looked for a way to complete the comeback. Their reward came in the 74th minute, when Mbeumo followed up after the Atletico goalkeeper had saved the initial effort and finished the rebound to put his side ahead.

The second goal completed a turnaround for Manchester United, who held on to claim a 2-1 victory as preparations for the new season continued.

The result gives Manchester United two wins from their pre-season matches so far. Their only defeat came against Wrexham, who won 1-0.

Atletico de Madrid had opened their friendly programme with victory over Getafe, but this was their first defeat in the warm-up schedule.

Manchester United’s next fixture will be against Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday at 18:00 Cairo time. Atletico de Madrid will return to action on Sunday, when they face Manchester City at 14:00 Cairo time.
