Manchester United and Chelsea alerted as Arsenal consider Myles Lewis-Skelly sale

Arsenal are considering selling Myles Lewis-Skelly during the current summer transfer window after completing the signing of Brazil midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United.

The 19-year-old has only recently committed his future to Arsenal, having signed a new contract last summer, but the club are understood to be open to offers from Manchester United and Chelsea.

Arsenal believe Lewis-Skelly could find it difficult to secure regular football in midfield next season following Guimaraes’ arrival. As a result, they are assessing whether his departure could provide a significant financial return while also helping to reshape the squad.

According to the English newspaper the Mirror, Arsenal have made both Manchester United and Chelsea aware that Lewis-Skelly is available and have offered them the opportunity to sign him.

It remains uncertain whether either club will make a formal approach. However, Lewis-Skelly has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford over the past 12 months, and Manchester United are still looking to strengthen in two positions before the summer transfer window closes.

Michael Carrick’s side are seeking a midfielder and a left-back. Lewis-Skelly’s ability to operate in either role would make him a particularly attractive option for Manchester United, who could regard the England international as a player capable of addressing both areas of need.

The teenager’s versatility has been one of his main strengths at Arsenal. Although he has featured at left-back, his qualities also allow him to play further forward in midfield, where competition for places is expected to increase after the club’s move for Guimaraes.

Chelsea may also be interested in taking advantage of the situation. Arsenal would be expected to find it difficult to reject a substantial offer from their Premier League rivals, particularly if the proposed move offered Lewis-Skelly a clearer route to regular first-team football.

At Chelsea, he could be used primarily in midfield under manager Xabi Alonso. The London club already have Jorrel Hato and Pep Chavarria available at left-back, which could leave Lewis-Skelly with more opportunities to establish himself in the centre of the pitch.

For Arsenal, the decision is complicated by the player’s age and recent contract renewal. Lewis-Skelly has only just turned 19 and remains a highly valued member of the squad, but the arrival of Guimaraes has created greater competition for midfield places.

The club must now decide whether to retain a versatile young player who may struggle to play regularly or accept a potentially attractive transfer fee from one of their Premier League rivals. There is currently no indication that Manchester United or Chelsea have formally submitted a bid, but both clubs have been presented with the chance to pursue a deal.
