Vincent Kompany Defends Yaya Touré Amid Champions League Criticism
Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has spoken out in defense of teammate Yaya Touré, who has come under fire for his recent performances in the UEFA Champions League. Despite his consistent influence in the Premier League, Touré has been criticized for being less impactful on the European stage—most recently after City’s home draw against AS Roma.
Kompany stood by his fellow midfielder, highlighting his importance and contributions to the club:
“He has done so much for this club, he has always played very well. He is a crucial player. When he plays well, the team plays well.”
Acknowledging City’s challenging start to the season, the Belgian defender urged patience:
“We had a difficult start because we faced tough teams. You can’t deny that. He (Yaya) has set the bar very high for himself. But to say he is not in his best form, I don’t agree. It’s too early in the season to judge something like that.”
Kompany’s support reinforces Touré’s status as a central figure at the club despite current scrutiny, and he believes the Ivorian will soon prove his worth in Europe once again.
