Pascal Chimbonda Joins Arles-Avignon to Bolster Struggling Defense
It’s now official: Pascal Chimbonda has signed with Arles-Avignon, as confirmed on Wednesday by La Provence. The 35-year-old veteran defender had been linked with the Ligue 2 club for several weeks, and negotiations have finally borne fruit.
Chimbonda, who previously played for Le Havre, Bastia, and Tottenham, brings a wealth of experience to a side currently struggling defensively in the early stages of the Ligue 2 season. He is best remembered for his surprise call-up by Raymond Domenech to France’s 2006 World Cup squad.
Prior to this move, Chimbonda spent last season playing for CD Fátima, a club in Portugal’s third division.
His arrival is expected to provide much-needed stability and leadership to Arles-Avignon’s back line as they fight to climb the table.
