Manchester City condemn racist abuse of Ghana star Antoine Semenyo
Manchester City have strongly condemned racist abuse directed at Ghana international Antoine Semenyo following their Premier League clash against Everton FC.
The match at Goodison Park ended in a dramatic 3-3 draw, but the result was overshadowed by reports of racist abuse aimed at Semenyo during the game, as well as online abuse directed at his teammate Marc Guehi in the aftermath.
The Premier League giants expressed deep disappointment over the incidents, while reaffirming their zero-tolerance stance on discrimination in football and urging swift action against those responsible.
“Manchester City strongly condemns the racist abuse directed towards Antoine Semenyo at yesterday’s match. We welcome the swift action taken by Everton and the police to identify the individual responsible,” the club said.
“We are also incredibly disappointed to hear that Marc Guehi was subject to a series of vile racist social media posts last night. We will continue to offer our full support to both Antoine and Marc and never accept discrimination of any kind in our game,” the statement added.
The club’s response underlines the growing urgency within football to tackle both stadium and online abuse, with renewed calls for stronger sanctions and coordinated action from authorities and social media platforms.
The 26-year-old Ghana forward has been outstanding in the Premier League this season, scoring 15 goals and providing 4 in 33 games between AFC Bournemouth and Manchester City.
