Manchester City’s Yaya Touré took to Twitter to address the recent controversy stirred up by his agent, Dimitri Seluk. The situation began when Manchester City failed to wish their star midfielder a happy birthday, prompting Seluk to publicly criticize the oversight and hint at Touré’s potential departure from the club.
“Yaya is upset. You can’t buy a relationship with money. And if they can’t shake Yaya’s hand, then bye bye, no problem,” Seluk told BBC.
Touré initially responded with humor to the birthday wishes he received, joking about Manchester City’s belated card: “Thanks for all the birthday messages today. Card from City just arrived… Must have got lost in the post. Haha.”
However, Touré later clarified his stance, urging fans not to take statements made by others as his own: “Jokes aside. Please don’t take words that don’t come out of my own mouth too seriously. Just judge my loyalty to Manchester City by my performances.”
Despite his attempts to quell the controversy, Touré maintained an air of ambiguity about his future at Manchester City. He confirmed that his agent’s words were true and that he would address his future with the club in an interview after the World Cup.
