Mali begin UFOA A U17 tournament against Liberia as Group B takes centre stage

Mali will begin their campaign at the UFOA A U17 tournament on Tuesday when they face Liberia in their opening Group B fixture.

The Aiglons du Mali are the main attraction on the second day of the competition, as they make their first appearance in the tournament being used to determine the teams competing for the next Africa U17 Cup of Nations.

Mali will be aiming for a strong start against Liberia as they begin their bid to make an impact in the regional competition. Their opening match is the first of two Group B fixtures scheduled for the day.

The second game will see Guinea take on Guinea-Bissau, with both sides also looking to make a positive start to their campaigns.

The tournament opened on Monday with Senegal claiming victory over Mauritania. That result marked the beginning of a competition involving the eight teams from the zone, all gathered in Senegal as they seek to challenge the established order in the region.

Senegal and Mali are regarded as the sides that have set the benchmark in the zone, but the other teams will be hoping to upset that hierarchy during the tournament. The competition will continue until 20 September.

Mali’s opening match therefore provides the first opportunity for the team to show whether they can match the expectations surrounding them. Liberia, meanwhile, will be looking to frustrate their opponents and begin the group stage with a result.

The two Group B matches will be played on Tuesday, with Mali meeting Liberia at 16:00 before Guinea face Guinea-Bissau at 19:00.
