Makhanya names Premier League as top target after Rangers

Rangers and Bafana Bafana defender Olwethu Makhanya says playing in the Premier League is his leading ambition if he eventually leaves the Scottish club.

Makhanya joined Rangers from Philadelphia Union before the current season and has established himself as an increasingly important member of the side’s defence.

The centre-back has made 10 appearances in all competitions so far, highlighting the growing role he has taken on since arriving at the club.

Speaking in an interview with Metro FM, Makhanya said his career plan was focused on reaching one of the world’s top five leagues.

“I have my goals listed, where I’ve played, where I am right now and where I’m trying to go,” said Makhanya.

“So, we still have a couple of steps there left cause the main goal is to play in top five leagues in the world.”

The 23-year-old placed the Premier League at the top of his preferred destinations, with La Liga second and France’s Ligue 1 completing his top three.

“I would put Premier League and La Liga up there and maybe France. So, that’s where we’re trying to get,” he added.
