Mahazou Baba Cissé elected as new Malian Football Federation president
Mahazou Baba Cissé has been elected as the new Malian Football Federation (Femafoot), following an extraordinary general meeting held in Bamako on Thursday, April 16, 2026.
He succeeds outgoing president Mamoutou Touré, taking charge at a crucial moment for Malian football, with expectations of reform, stability, and renewed ambition across all levels of the game.
The election saw Cissé run as the sole candidate and secure a decisive mandate from the delegates. He received 69 votes in favour, with one vote against and two abstentions, confirming strong institutional backing for his leadership as the federation charts its next phase.
The electoral process was conducted under the supervision of representatives from FIFA, the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and the West African Football Union Zone A (WAFU-A), ensuring compliance with international governance standards and transparency throughout the proceedings.
With his election now confirmed, Cissé is expected to usher in a new era aimed at strengthening football structures in Mali, improving domestic competitions, and enhancing the development pathway for young talent.
His mandate, which runs until 2030, places him at the centre of long-term planning for Malian football, including national team performance, league development, and administrative reform.
As he assumes office, attention will turn to how quickly the new Femafoot leadership can translate its mandate into tangible progress, with fans and stakeholders hopeful that this transition will mark a period of stability and growth for football in Mali.
