Luca Zidane returns to training ahead of Algeria’s 2026 World Cup campaign
Granada goalkeeper Luca Zidane has resumed training as he continues his recovery from injury ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with Algeria.
According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, the shot stopper returned to Granada training on Wednesday, almost a month after suffering a fractured jaw and chin during a league clash against Almeria at the Nuevo Los Cármenes Stadium.
The report stated that Zidane trained while wearing a protective face mask following surgery on April 29 to address the injury. Despite his progress, the goalkeeper is expected to need another three to four weeks before making a full return to competitive action.
There remains a possibility that Luca Zidane could feature in Granada’s final match of the season against Sporting Gijon on May 31, although indications suggest the player and club are prioritising his recovery and preparation for the World Cup.
Mundo Deportivo also noted that the goalkeeper has already begun preparations with his teammates ahead of Granada’s upcoming fixture against Mirandés on Sunday, but he is unlikely to play again for the Andalusian side this season.
Zidane has established himself as an important figure for the Algerian national team in recent years, particularly after his impressive performances at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. The goalkeeper kept clean sheets in three of the four matches he played during the tournament.
Algeria are set to compete at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Group 10 alongside defending champions Argentina, Jordan, and Austria.
The Desert Warriors will begin their World Cup journey in the early hours of June 17 with a highly anticipated clash against Argentina.
