Bayern likely to keep Boey until January as Saudi Arabia option disappears

Bayern Munich defender Sacha Boey is increasingly likely to remain at the German champions until at least January after the Saudi Arabian transfer window closed without an agreement being reached.

The 25-year-old right-back had been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League, with Bayern sporting director Max Eberl admitting the club were still exploring potential options following their 0-0 draw against Schalke 04.

“There are still markets open. Let’s see what happens.”

However, one of Bayern’s most realistic remaining transfer routes has now disappeared following the closure of the Saudi transfer window.

Saudi move fails to materialise

According to Bild, Bayern were still in discussions with clubs from Saudi Arabia, while Boey was reportedly open to making the move to the Gulf.

But no agreement was reached before the deadline, according to reports from fcbinside.de.

Saudi Arabia had been viewed as one of the potential destinations for the former Galatasaray defender, particularly after the closure of Europe’s major transfer windows.

Turkey was also considered a possible destination, but that option has similarly disappeared following the closure of its transfer market.

The developments leave Bayern with limited opportunities to offload Boey before the January window.

Few realistic options remain

Transfer windows remain open in several European countries, including Switzerland, Poland, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Bulgaria and Romania.

However, a move to any of those leagues appears unlikely.

Bayern are reportedly seeking around 15 million euros for the defender, a fee that could prove difficult for clubs in the remaining open markets to meet.

Boey’s willingness to join one of those clubs would also be required, while his salary demands could present an additional obstacle to either a permanent transfer or loan deal.

Boey set for Bayern stay

With the Saudi Arabian and Turkish markets now closed, all signs point towards Boey remaining at Bayern Munich until the winter transfer window.

The defender, who joined Bayern from Turkish giants Galatasaray, remains under contract with the German record champions until the summer of 2028.

Unless an unexpected opportunity emerges from one of the remaining open transfer markets, Bayern appear set to retain Boey for the first half of the season before reassessing his future in January.
