Mamelodi Sundowns shot stopper Ronwen Williams says it was tough losing the CAF Champions League title to Pyramids FC.
The South African outfit fell to Pyramids in the two-legged finals, undermining their quest of wining the covetous trophy for the first time since 2016.
Pyramids defeated Sundowns 2-1 in the return leg clash held in Cairo, completing a 3-2 aggregate win for the Egyptian outfit.
Speaking to iDiskiTimes, the South African first-choice goalkeeper expressed disappointment following their Champions League setback while, turning attention to the FIFA Club Wolrd Cup tournament.
“This season, we had to focus on so many competitions, and only this week have we really been able to concentrate on the Club World Cup. It was a tough period after losing the Champions League final”
‘The good thing is, the coach gave us a few days off—five or six days—and when we returned to training, you could see the energy was back”
“So those five days apart also… they gave us strength again, brought back that spark. Obviously, it was devastating, it was hard to accept that loss, but we have to keep moving forward. At Mamelodi Sundowns, there’s always another opportunity…”
Meanwhile, Williams has expressed delight as the team gear up for the maiden Club World Cup tournament in the USA.
“It’s an amazing feeling to be at the Club World Cup. This is history for the club, for the country. We’ve worked so hard to get here—you know how much we’ve fought to reach this stage, how much we’ve sacrificed”
