Kylian Mbappe boosts SM Caen finances with major capital increase
Kylian Mbappe has stepped in to support SM Caen’s fragile finances by participating in a €5.5 million capital increase at the club.
The French star, who bought an 80% stake in Caen in 2024 through his family company, has effectively reinforced the club’s budget at a difficult sporting moment.
Instead of simply wiring fresh cash, Mbappe converted part of an existing loan he had granted the club into equity. This move strengthened Caen’s balance sheet and pushed the club’s capital up from €16.5 million to €22 million, giving them more stability and room to operate going forward.
The intervention comes as SM Caen try to rebuild after a tough period on the pitch. Relegated from Ligue 2 last season, they now sit 12th in the 2025/26 Championnat National and are working to climb back towards the professional tiers.
Mbappe’s financial backing underlines his long-term commitment to the Normandy side and highlights how involved he is becoming off the pitch, using his resources and profile to help secure the club’s future while his own playing career continues at the very highest level.
