Kruger United sign Mamelodi Sundowns defender Asekho Tiwani on loan

Kruger United have strengthened their squad with the loan signing of Mamelodi Sundowns left-back Asekho Tiwani, with the defender joining the Betway Premiership club until the end of the season.

The move was confirmed by Kruger sporting director Elasto Kapowedza, who said the 21-year-old had completed a temporary switch to the Village Boys from the reigning top-flight side.

“He’s signed with us for until the end of the season,” Kapowedza told Soccer Laduma.

“So, yes it’s true that he’s joined on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns.”

Tiwani has been part of the Mamelodi Sundowns squad since 2024, when the Tshwane club recruited him from Sekhukhune United. The left-back subsequently gained further experience away from the club during a loan spell with Stellenbosch.

He spent the second half of last season at Stellenbosch after moving there on loan in January, remaining with the club until the end of June. His latest temporary move will now see him continue his development with Kruger United in the Betway Premiership.

The deal gives Kruger an additional option at left-back as the club looks to build its squad, while Sundowns retain the player’s registration. No further terms of the agreement were disclosed beyond the confirmation that Tiwani will remain with Kruger until the season concludes.

Kapowedza also confirmed that Kruger United have completed the signing of midfielder Thuso Moleleki.

Moleleki recently parted ways with Orlando Pirates and had appeared close to joining Lerumo Lions, a club competing in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. His move to the second-tier side looked set to provide his next opportunity after leaving Orlando Pirates.

However, Kruger United made a late approach and offered Moleleki the chance to remain in the top division. The midfielder accepted that opportunity, completing his move to the Mpumalanga-based club at the eleventh hour.

The confirmations mean Kruger have added both a young defender from Mamelodi Sundowns and an experienced top-flight midfield option to their ranks. Tiwani arrives on loan, while Moleleki joins after ending his association with Orlando Pirates.

Kapowedza’s comments settle the uncertainty surrounding both deals and confirm that Kruger United have moved quickly to reinforce their squad. Tiwani’s previous spells with Sekhukhune United, Mamelodi Sundowns and Stellenbosch have given him experience across several South African clubs, while Moleleki’s last-minute decision to choose Kruger prevented him from moving to Motsepe Foundation Championship club Lerumo Lions.

The two signings give the Village Boys additions in defence and midfield as they continue their Betway Premiership campaign.
