Kumasi Asante Kotoko climbed to the top of the Ghana Premier League table after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Accra Lions on matchday 5 at the Len Clay Stadium. The match, played in front of an enthusiastic crowd, saw Albert Amoah’s decisive goal secure all three points for the Porcupine Warriors, maintaining their unbeaten run this season.

The lone goal came from Amoah in the second half, whose individual brilliance broke the deadlock.

With a well-timed run and a precise finish, Amoah ensured Kotoko’s dominance and their continued strong start to the campaign.

The goal not only handed them the victory but also cemented their place at the summit of the league table.

After the game, head coach Seydou Zerbo Ogun praised his side’s resilience, acknowledging the challenges posed by Accra Lions but commending his players for their grit and determination.

“It wasn’t an easy match, but the team stayed focused and got the result we needed,” Ogun remarked. “Accra Lions were tough, but our discipline and hard work paid off.”

The victory marks Kotoko’s third win of the season, alongside two draws, keeping their unbeaten streak intact.

With this strong form, the club has set the pace in their pursuit of reclaiming the Ghana Premier League title, a goal they have been focused on since the season’s kickoff.

Kotoko’s defensive solidity was a key factor in the win.

The backline stood firm against the Lions’ sporadic but dangerous attacks, ensuring that the visitors were kept at bay.

Goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim was hardly troubled as Kotoko controlled possession for large periods of the match, frustrating Accra Lions’ attempts to break through.

Accra Lions, on their part, showed moments of promise but were unable to break down Kotoko’s organised defense.

Despite their best efforts, the lack of clinical finishing proved to be their undoing, and they left Len Clay Stadium without a point.

Coach James Francis will be reflecting on the missed chances and looking to bounce back in their next fixture.

For Kotoko, the win further strengthens their belief that this could be a championship-winning season.

The Porcupine Warriors are steadily building momentum, with a squad that blends experience and youth, and a tactical setup that has so far yielded positive results.

The fans, always vocal and passionate, are beginning to hope that their team is on course for another league triumph.

As the league progresses, Kotoko will be keen to maintain their form, knowing that there are still many tough challenges ahead.

But with Coach Ogun’s leadership and a team playing with unity and purpose, they are firmly on track to achieve their ambition of reclaiming the Ghana Premier League title.

Their next fixture will be crucial in solidifying their top position, and the Porcupine Warriors will undoubtedly be aiming to extend their unbeaten run as they march forward in their quest for glory.
