Ivorian defender Koffi Kouao set to leave FC Metz after four years
Koffi Kouao is set to leave FC Metz at the end of the season, bringing an end to his four-year stay with the Ligue 1 side.
The 27-year-old right-back, who was recently voted the club’s Player of the Month for March, has been a consistent presence in the Metz squad and remains one of their standout performers during a difficult campaign.
Despite his influence, reports indicate that his contract, which runs until June 30, 2026, will not be extended, paving the way for his departure this summer.
According to specialist outlet Culture Grenat, the decision signals a turning point for both player and club. Kouao’s exit comes at a time when Metz are enduring a challenging season, currently sitting at the bottom of Ligue 1 and facing the strong likelihood of relegation.
The club’s precarious position is expected to trigger significant changes ahead of next season, including financial restructuring and adjustments to the playing squad.
While Kouao has shown commitment and consistency throughout his time in Moselle, his departure appears to align with the broader overhaul required as Metz attempt to rebuild and target a return to the top flight.
For Kouao, the move represents an opportunity to pursue a fresh challenge and re-energise his career. The Abidjan-born defender has previously attracted interest from clubs in the Premier League as well as Turkish side Kayserispor, although his next destination has yet to be confirmed.
Valued at an estimated €2.5 million, Kouao remains a sought-after option in the transfer market. He is currently earning an annual salary of €780,000 at Metz, further underlining his status as an important figure within the squad.
As Metz prepare for a period of transition, Kouao’s expected departure marks the end of a significant chapter for both the player and the club, with changes on the horizon as they look to reshape their future.
