Knox Mutizwa could revive career with Venda FC move

Former Golden Arrows and Richards Bay striker Knox Mutizwa is being linked with a move to Motsepe Foundation Championship side Venda FC after several months without a club.

The Zimbabwe international has reportedly resurfaced in Limpopo, where he could become the latest addition to a Venda side seeking to improve its attacking options. Soccer Laduma reports that discussions are under way over a possible deal for the 32-year-old forward.

Mutizwa left Betway Premiership club Richards Bay last season and has remained a free agent since then. His search for a new team has so far produced little success, but that situation could change if he reaches an agreement with Venda FC.

The club are looking to strengthen their forward line after enduring a difficult campaign in front of goal last season. Venda FC scored only 24 goals in 30 matches, the lowest total recorded by any team in the Championship.

Coach Clinton Larsen is understood to be keen to address that weakness before the season progresses, with Mutizwa now viewed as a possible solution to the club’s lack of firepower. The striker’s experience in South African football could provide additional attacking quality as Venda attempt to become more competitive.

Mutizwa previously played for Golden Arrows before joining Richards Bay. His potential move to Venda FC would give him an opportunity to return to regular football after spending the past few months without a club.

Venda FC have already been active in the transfer market as they prepare for the campaign. Their recent arrivals include Cameron Carnell, Goodman Chirwa, Cohan Daniels, Douglas Mapfumo, Bongani Mpandle, Stevens Goovadia, Bonginkosi Makume and Donald Makgetlwa.

However, the club have made an uneven start to the new season and are still waiting for their first victory after two matches.

They opened their campaign at home against Lerumo Lions, drawing 1-1. Venda FC then suffered a 1-0 defeat away to Gomora United over the weekend, leaving them without a win from their opening fixtures.

The early results have increased the importance of improving their attacking output, and securing Mutizwa could give Larsen another experienced option as the team looks to turn its start around. Any agreement would also give the striker the chance to relaunch his career in the second tier after his departure from Richards Bay.
