Kevin Akpoguma ends long Hoffenheim chapter

After many years together, Kevin Akpoguma’s time at TSG Hoffenheim will come to an end this summer, with the defender leaving on a free transfer when his contract expires.

The club confirmed his departure on Friday, closing a significant chapter for both player and team.

Akpoguma first joined Hoffenheim from Karlsruher SC back in 2013, then returned in 2017 after a brief spell away, spending almost his entire professional career in the Kraichgau. Over the years, the 31-year-old became a permanent part of the back line, amassing 201 competitive appearances and featuring in both the Champions League and Europa League, scoring four goals in all competitions.

Although his on-pitch role has diminished this season, the club’s hierarchy has underlined his importance in the dressing room. Managing director Andreas Schicker praised him, saying: “He always set an exemplary standard by putting himself at the service of the team and, as a team player, contributed his part to the team’s success.”

Schicker added that the Pfalz-born defender has been “For years one of the faces of the club” and an important contact for younger players. Hoffenheim will officially bid farewell to Akpoguma during their final home game against Werder Bremen.
