Kenya to host Arsenal after Premier League triumph
Kenyan President William Ruto has revealed that he has invited Premier League champions Arsenal to visit the East African nation following the massive celebrations that erupted across Nairobi after the club’s title triumph.
A passionate Arsenal supporter himself, Ruto said he was astonished by the scenes in the Kenyan capital as thousands of fans flooded the streets to celebrate the club’s first Premier League title in 22 years.
Arsenal ended their long wait for domestic glory at the end of May, edging out rivals Manchester City to secure the crown and spark jubilant celebrations among their global fanbase.
Speaking to Reuters during the G7 summit in France on Thursday, Ruto described the scale of the celebrations in Nairobi as remarkable.
“Arsenal finally closed the gap and it was a huge celebration. I was shocked in Nairobi,” he said.
The Kenyan leader disclosed that he has already extended an invitation to the North London club, expressing hope that the team could visit Kenya sometime next year.
“It was a big celebration and I am trying to see whether sometime next year Arsenal can come to Kenya,” Ruto added.
Thousands of Arsenal supporters dressed in the club’s famous red and white colours took to the streets of Nairobi, waving flags and celebrating the historic achievement.
Ruto believes a visit by the Premier League champions would be warmly received, given the club’s strong following in the country.
“I have sent an invitation because I think it would be a great moment for Arsenal to come to Kenya. They have great fans,” he said.
