Kaizer Chiefs set for Moses Mabhida Stadium switch against Siwelele FC

Kaizer Chiefs’ Betway Premiership meeting with Siwelele FC is set to move from the Royal Bafokeng Stadium to Moses Mabhida Stadium, with the fixture also brought forward by three days.

The match was initially scheduled to take place in Phokeng on 5 September, with kick-off at 20:00. However, updates shared on the official social media pages of Moses Mabhida Stadium indicate that the highly anticipated encounter will now be played at the Durban venue on 2 September, starting at 19:30.

The reported change means Kaizer Chiefs will return to a stadium that was unavailable for their previous fixture against Richards Bay. Moses Mabhida Stadium had been closed while major structural engineering work was completed on its roof, alongside maintenance work on the pitch.

The Durban stadium has now reopened and is preparing for a busy September schedule. It is due to host Durban City’s CAF Confederation Cup match against Rukinzo FC on 6 September, before staging the Betway Premiership fixture between AmaZulu FC and Marumo Gallants six days later.

The rearranged meeting with Siwelele FC will carry significant importance for both teams, with the early Betway Premiership standings already beginning to take shape.

Kaizer Chiefs currently occupy third position after collecting eight points from their opening four matches. Fernando da Cruz’s side will be looking for a decisive victory to maintain contact with the early pace-setters, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.

Both Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns have moved to 10 points, leaving Kaizer Chiefs two points behind the leading pair. A win would therefore allow Chiefs to close that gap and strengthen their position near the top of the table.

Siwelele FC face a very different situation. The Bloemfontein-based side are 14th after taking only two points from their first four league matches.

They are in urgent need of an away victory to revive their start to the campaign and move away from the early relegation concerns. That makes the evening fixture an important test for both teams, despite their contrasting positions in the standings.

For Kaizer Chiefs, the match represents an opportunity to continue their challenge near the summit and prevent the leaders from pulling further clear. For Siwelele FC, securing three points would provide a much-needed boost and ease the pressure created by their difficult opening run.

The fixture is expected to be played under the floodlights at Moses Mabhida Stadium, subject to the venue change being formally confirmed.
