Kaizer Chiefs will return to 2026/27 league action with their midfield options further depleted after Adolf Mtasingwa was ruled out of Tuesday’s meeting with Stellenbosch FC.
Fernando Da Cruz’s side welcome the Cape Winelands club to FNB Stadium at 19:30, with the Amakhosi seeking to preserve their unbeaten start to the league campaign.
Chiefs have played seven matches so far this season, recording three victories and four draws. Their only defeat came in the MTN8, where they were eliminated by Golden Arrows.
The club’s return to domestic league football has been overshadowed by a growing injury problem in midfield. Central midfielders Lebogang Maboe and Siphesihle Ndlovu are already unavailable, leaving Sibongiseni Mthethwa and Thulani Mabaso as the remaining recognised options in that area.
Da Cruz provided a further update during a pre-match media briefing at the Kaizer Chiefs Village on Monday.
The coach confirmed that Mtasingwa will also miss the fixture against Stellenbosch, managed by former Chiefs mentor Gavin Hunt. The 27-year-old Tanzanian had been the subject of uncertainty, with the fitness of the other injured midfielders already established.
His absence leaves Da Cruz with limited choices as Chiefs attempt to continue their unbeaten league record and resume their campaign positively after the international break.
The match at FNB Stadium is scheduled to begin at 19:30 on Tuesday evening.
