Kai Havertz reaches seven goal contributions against Manchester City as Arsenal score twice in Community Shield

Kai Havertz scored Arsenal’s second goal against Manchester City in the Community Shield final to record his seventh goal contribution against the club during his career with different teams.

The Arsenal forward headed home in the 28th minute after a precise cross from new arrival Christos Tzolis, extending his personal record against Manchester City to four goals and three assists.

Manchester City have now become the club against whom Havertz has produced the most goals and assists over the course of his career. His latest effort also made them his preferred opponent in terms of total goal contributions, with seven in all.

Havertz’s finish came after Arsenal had made a rapid start to the match. Ricardo Calafiori put Arsenal ahead after only 23 seconds of the opening half, giving his side an early advantage before Havertz doubled the lead.

The second goal was created from the wide area, with Tzolis delivering the cross for Havertz to attack. The German met it with a well-taken header to score Arsenal’s second against the holders.

The match is being played for the Community Shield, with Arsenal aiming to win the trophy for an 18th time in their history. They have lifted the shield on 17 previous occasions, with their most recent success coming in 2023.

Manchester City have won the trophy seven times, most recently in 2024. Manchester United remain the record holders, having claimed the Community Shield 21 times.

Havertz’s contribution continued his notable scoring record against Manchester City. Before the final, he had already scored three times and provided three assists against them for his various clubs. His header therefore supplied the additional contribution required to take his overall tally to seven.

Arsenal’s early goals gave them control of the contest as they pursued another Community Shield triumph. Calafiori’s strike, arriving within the first minute, was followed by Havertz’s header five minutes before the half-hour mark.

For Manchester City, the two-goal deficit came against an Arsenal side who had taken their opportunities efficiently. The London club’s opening goal arrived almost immediately after kick-off, while their second came from a carefully delivered cross that Havertz converted with his head.

The result, as described in the final, has placed Arsenal in a strong position as they seek to add to their collection of 17 Community Shield wins. Manchester City are attempting to retain a competition they last won in 2024, while Manchester United continue to lead the list of winners with 21 titles.
