Juan Bezerra says Zamalek broke promise over record transfer offer

Zamalek winger Juan Bezerra has accused the Egyptian club of breaking a promise to allow him to leave, saying an offer for his transfer would have made him the most expensive sale in the club’s history.

In a statement addressed directly to Zamalek supporters, the Brazilian said the dispute was not only about his personal ambitions but also about the club’s need for additional income to improve its financial position.

Bezerra said: “Today I want to speak directly to the fans of Zamalek, without my media team or lawyer.”

He added: “I joined the club in the second half of 2025 and felt a strong connection with the fans, a feeling I had not experienced since leaving Vasco da Gama.”

The winger said his time in Cairo had included difficult moments which he had chosen not to reveal publicly in order to avoid embarrassing the club.

“The journey was not easy, and many things happened that I do not want to disclose so I do not embarrass the club, but with your support I was able to continue strongly,” he said.

Bezerra also claimed he had rejected important offers towards the end of last year because he did not want to leave Zamalek or disappoint its supporters.

“I rejected important offers at the end of last year and did not even want to listen to them, because I could not leave the team and let you down,” he said.

He said his main objective had been to help Zamalek win the Egyptian Premier League after a four-year wait, and that he had no regrets after achieving that goal with the club.

“My goal was to help Zamalek win the league after four years, and we succeeded together. I have no regrets,” Bezerra said.

The 2025-26 Egyptian Premier League title was the Brazilian’s first major achievement with Zamalek. He contributed two goals and three assists during the league campaign.

Bezerra said the club had repeatedly promised him and his father that it would sell him and agree a transfer fee.

“The club promised me and my father more than once that it would sell me and set the price for my transfer,” he said. “The offer did arrive, and it would have made me the most expensive deal in the club’s history, but the board did not honour its promise.”

He claimed this was not the first time agreements had not been respected, but said he would not accept the situation on this occasion.

“I was portrayed as the one at fault, but my conscience is clear because I did everything correctly,” he said. “Despite everything I have faced since arriving, I did not wrong anyone. That was because of my unconditional love for the fans, but everything has limits and I have reached mine.”

Reports have linked Bezerra with a possible move to Shabab Al Ahli Dubai.

His public statement follows a financial dispute between his agent and Zamalek, which has led to communication between the player and the club breaking down in recent days, with preparations for the new season approaching.

Bezerra has reportedly ignored calls from Zamalek officials for the past week because of the disagreement over money owed to his representative.

The dispute began after Zamalek completed payment of all sums owed to Bezerra, as well as the amount due to his former club. His agent then requested the commission believed to be payable after the transfer had been completed.

Zamalek has started communicating with the player’s agent in an attempt to settle the outstanding payment and bring the dispute to an end.

At the same time, the Zamalek board formally informed Bezerra of the date for the start of pre-season training and asked him to join the squad’s preparations.

Bezerra has made 44 appearances for Zamalek in all competitions, scoring eight goals and providing 12 assists.
