José Gomes rules out Al Ahly move after joining Al Khaleej
Portuguese manager José Gomes has officially been appointed as the new head coach of Al Khaleej, ending speculation linking him with a move to Egyptian giants Al Ahly SC.
The Saudi club confirmed the appointment via its official “X” account, announcing that Gomes has signed a two-year contract as part of their plans to strengthen the technical team ahead of the new season.
Successful Spell at Al-Fateh Preceded Appointment
Gomes arrives at Al Khaleej after a solid spell with Al-Fateh SC, where he successfully guided the team to safety in the Roshn Saudi League during an earlier campaign.
He later led the side to an 11th-place finish last season, collecting 37 points in a competitive league campaign.
Al Ahly Links End in Disappointment
The coach’s name had previously been strongly linked with a potential role at Al Ahly, amid reports suggesting interest from the Egyptian club as they assessed options for their next managerial appointment.
However, those rumours have now been put to rest following his official unveiling in Saudi Arabia, confirming his immediate future lies in the Gulf region rather than North Africa.
Al Khaleej Aim for Stability and Progress
Al Khaleej finished 12th in the Saudi Pro League last season after also collecting 37 points, and the club is now hoping Gomes can bring greater consistency and help push the team further up the table in the coming campaign.
