Jordan Torunarigha injury update boosts HSV hopes

Hamburger SV are optimistic that Jordan Torunarigha will be back with the team sooner rather than later after his recent head injury.

Head coach Merlin Polzin expects the central defender to return to full team training quickly, following a short spell on the sidelines for precautionary medical checks. Torunarigha had been kept out of sessions after suffering a blow to the head and undergoing a series of tests, but the club now anticipate a rapid comeback.

“I hope that he can train with the team again on Thursday,” Polzin said on the sidelines of HSV’s first training session of the week, underlining the staff’s growing confidence about the player’s condition.

The 28-year-old was substituted in the 2–1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt after taking a hit to the head and leaving the pitch feeling dizzy. German outlet Bild had already suggested that the defender could rejoin team training towards the end of the week, and this timetable appears to be holding up.

Torunarigha was able to give the all-clear shortly after the final whistle in Frankfurt, easing immediate fears of a serious injury. With the latest signs all pointing in the right direction, his involvement in Sunday’s home match against SC Freiburg still looks like a realistic option for HSV.
