Christ Inao Oulai: Five key facts about ACF Fiorentina’s rising Ivory Coast star

Christ Inao Oulai’s rapid rise has taken him from the Jean-Marc Guillou academy to professional football with Bastia, Trabzonspor and now ACF Fiorentina. The Ivory Coast midfielder, whose full name is Christ Ravynel Inao Oulai, is increasingly being identified as one of the country’s most promising young players.

Born into the next generation of Ivorian talent, Oulai signed his first professional contract with Bastia in July 2024, aged 18. His progress quickly led him abroad, with Trabzonspor providing his first experience in Turkey before he moved to ACF Fiorentina in the summer of 2026.

A standout start in Italy

Oulai has already made an impression in the Coppa Italia. In the last 32 against Pisa, he played the entire match and produced an all-round performance in midfield.

He touched the ball 100 times and completed 85 of his 86 passes, giving him a 99% pass-completion rate. He also created three chances, completed three of his four attempted dribbles and recovered possession seven times.

Defensively, Oulai won six of his nine duels and made three interventions. His display earned him the man-of-the-match award and offered an early indication of what he could contribute to his new club.

From first Ivory Coast call-up to the World Cup

Oulai’s opportunity with the Ivory Coast national team arrived at the end of 2025, when he received his first call-up from Emerse Fae.

He made the most of that chance by featuring at CAN 2025. The tournament represented his first major international experience and added another significant step to his development.

His involvement with the Elephants continued on football’s biggest stage. Oulai was included in the Ivory Coast squad for the 2026 World Cup, an indication that he is already viewed as part of the country’s plans for the future.

A composed, modern number six

Oulai has primarily been used as a number six, where his reading of the game and intelligent positioning allow him to influence matches without relying solely on physicality.

His passing enables him to help build attacks from deep, while his technical ability allows him to retain possession and escape pressure. That combination gives him the flexibility to contribute both when ACF Fiorentina have the ball and when they are trying to regain it.

Away from his technical qualities, Oulai is also valued for his personality and positive mood within the dressing room. He is regarded as a mobile, creative and technically capable midfielder, with his understanding of the game helping him make an impact beyond his physical attributes.

His next challenge will come in Serie A, with Napoli due to face ACF Fiorentina in the fifth round of the Italian championship.
